GOD SEES EVERYTHING!

SEPTEMBER 18, Proverbs 15:3

“I shouldn’t have allowed you to look at my test paper,” said Luen guiltily as he and his friend Joel walked home after school. “I think I should tell Mr. Sim I cheated.”

“Why would you do that?” exclaimed Joel. “You didn’t cheat. I did.” “But I helped you,” said Luen, “so I cheated, too.” “We’ll never do it again,” said Joel. “Nobody saw us.” “God did,” replied Luen. “He sees everything.”

“You mean God doesn’t trust us, so He sits up round-the-clock to spy on us? I don’t believe that,” protested Joel. “Not spy, but He does see,” said Luen. “He... ah...” Luen sighed, not sure how to explain what he meant. “Maybe you’ll change your mind by tomorrow,” said Joel. “At least, I hope so.”

The next evening, Joel went with Luen’s family for dinner at East Coast Park. On the way home, they passed an oncoming car with its headlights on ‘high beam’. Luen’s father, Seng squinted. “That guy should dim his headlights!” he muttered. “They’re blinding me!”

“Seng!” Mom cried out. “Look out! You’re going too near...” The car brakes squealed, there was a thump, and they felt the car skid a little. They had hit a curb, but no one was hurt.

“Well, that was exciting,” said Joel when they dropped him off. “Thank God for watching over us,” said Luen’s mother.

“That’s it!” exclaimed Luen. “That’s what I meant earlier today. God does watch over us, but not just to catch us doing something bad. He watches over us to protect us, too.” Dad nodded. “The Bible says ‘The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.’”

Joel was deep in thought when he saw Luen the next morning. “I’ve been thinking,” he said, “and, well... if you still want to tell Mr. Sim about the test, I... I’ll go with you. Hey! Do you think God will see us do that, too?”

“Sure He will!” answered Luen with a smile. “And this time, I think He’ll like what He sees.”

Thought: Do I realise that God sees and knows what I do?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, remind me that nothing I do is hidden from You. You see the good as well as the bad things I do - or even think. You see me when I’m mean to someone, take something that doesn’t belong to me, or tell a lie. Teach me to be a good child. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
