WHAT IS ABUNDANT LIFE?

FEBRUARY 6, John 10:10

If I were to ask your parents what kind of child you are, what would I hear?

Are you a happy child? Are you joyful, cheerful, or contented? Or are you one who sulks in a corner, thinks the world is unfair to you, and/or believes others are more blessed than you? Dear child, what are you more like? Do you wake up each day glad that you can be with parents, family and friends? Or do you shrink back from each day and hope it will end quickly? Maybe it is because of school, for the Singapore school system is very tough. Maybe it is because of nasty classmates or parents who are too demanding.

In today’s Bible verse, we are promised by our gracious Jesus – that we would have abundant life. What is the meaning of “abundant”? It is to have a lot of something, to be rich, to have an oversupply. To have an oversupply of what? Well, Jesus says to have an oversupply of life!

That means as Christians, we are to have a life full of joy and purpose, for Jesus has a wonderful plan for you!

That does not mean life would be without difficulties. You would still face some unfriendly classmates who may be unkind, or lie about you. You may still fall sick and feel terrible when the bout of fever hits you. Your parents will still scold you if you misbehave. But through it all, you must know that Jesus is always there for you – so seek Him in prayer. Commit your troubles to Him. For He hears and answers prayers according to His will and time.

Jesus Christ came to earth and died on the cross, for you and for me. If He can give us His life, we can trust in Him to give us abundant life as He said He would according to His will.

Thought: In Jesus, I would always have a life that is abundant!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for this abundant life. Help me to be contented with what You have blessed me with. Help me to be diligent in my prayers. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
