FEBRUARY 13, John 10:26-27

Thousands of young people love to follow singers and movie stars in many ways. To them, these singers and movie stars are so beautiful, stylish and elegant that whatever they wear looks good on them. To these people, the stars or singers have become their idols. So many follow their dressing; whatever their idols wear, they would want to follow. Some follow their hairstyles. Some follow them in the manner of speaking, such as using slang words.

Do you have any such idols? I hope not. Some of your classmates may have, though. As children of God’s kingdom, we are told to follow someone who is godly as he or she follows Christ. That person is certainly not any movie star or singer! In fact, many of these celebrities live a life full of sin and sadness, for they drink alcohol, take drugs and do not have good family relationships. Surely, Jesus would not want us to live such lives!

Those who believe in Jesus are to follow Him. To follow means to hear and obey Him and His Word. That would be the proof that you are one of His sheep.

We must follow Jesus all the time. We cannot expect to follow Jesus once a week, when we go to Sunday School, or only when mummy or daddy are around. God wants us to follow Him all the time, to rely on Him always.

We must not follow Jesus based on our feelings, i.e. when we “feel like it”, we follow and when we do not “feel like it”, we stop following Jesus. That would be wrong – for we must remember that following Jesus is a great privilege that He extends only to those who trust in Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to follow You every day so that I can be a better Christian. Please help me to be diligent in my prayers and reading of Your Holy Word. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
