MAY 9, Revelation 19:16; Galatians 5:25
Melissa curled up on the couch with her new story book. “I’ve almost finished reading this book”, she said as she opened it. “The story is about a princess who didn’t even know she was a princess for quite a while.”
“How come?” asked Melissa’s brother, Aaron. “If I were a prince, I would know it!”
“She was kidnapped at birth” explained Melissa, “but even after she found and reunited with her family, she did not behave like a princess. The king and queen wanted her to live in their palace, but she was scared even to talk to them. She wanted to stay with people she knew, so she continued to live in her dilapidated shack. The king bought her pretty, new clothes, but she did not take care of them and soon they became dirty and raggedy like her old ones.”
“Interesting,” said Mom. “But we sometimes act and live that way ourselves.”
“We do?” asked Aaron. “I don’t wear raggedy clothes,” protested Melissa. “Besides, I’m not a princess.”
“You are one, in a way,” said Mom, “and Aaron is a prince.”
Melissa giggled. “Is Dad a king in disguise?” she asked. “And are you a queen?” Mom smiled. “No, but I’m a princess and Dad is a prince. This is made possible because we have trusted Jesus as our Saviour, so we are now adopted into God’s family,” she said. “We’re His children, and He is a King - not just any king, but the King of kings!”
“Oh, yeah!” Melissa exclaimed. “We had a Bible lesson on that.”
“As children of God, we’re His heirs,” continued Mom. “We have a wonderful future in Heaven in addition to the blessings and promises He offers us here on earth. But sometimes we forget that we also have responsibilities. We act as if we don’t know we’re children of the King, and we live as though we still belong to the world.”
“Well… just how is a prince or princess supposed to act?” Aaron wondered.
“You will find the answer in the fifth chapter of Galatians where Apostle Paul taught about developing the fruit of the Spirit. Go look it up!”
Thought: Did you know that if you trust in Jesus as your Saviour, you’re a child of the King of kings?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that I am your child. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
