LIFE IS LIKE A VAPOUR!

MAY 31, James 4:14

“Grandma, may we buy some bubble solution?” asked Jessica as they selected grocery items at Cold Storage. She and her sister were spending a weekend with their grandmother as their parents had gone for a short trip to Bangkok. “Amanda and I can share a bottle.” “We could buy some, but how would you like to make your own bubble solution?” Grandma asked. “All it takes is a cup of water, a tablespoon of dish washing soap, and a teaspoon of corn syrup.”

“That sounds like fun!” exclaimed Amanda. “Let’s do that!” “But what about wands to make the bubbles?” asked Jessica. “I have empty spools you can use to blow bubbles,” said Grandma. “I’ll show you how they work.”

When they reached Grandma’s home, she helped the girls mix the bubble recipe. Then she got the spools, dipped the end of one into the soapy solution, and blew into the other end. A large bubble formed on the end of the spool. “Wow!” exclaimed Amanda. “Let me do that!” The girls went to the balcony, and soon there were bubbles flying everywhere.

“Look at that huge one!” Jessica called, pointing toward the large one that just flew away. Their eyes followed a big bubble as it lifted in the breeze, catching rainbows of colour. Then… POP! The bubble burst and was gone.

“Aw-w-w,” they all moaned. During lunch, Amanda sighed. “This weekend is zooming by so fast,” she murmured. “Our May vacation would soon be over,” said Jessica. Grandma nodded. “I think the older you get, the more you realise how fast life goes by,” she said. “It reminds me of what God says in James 4:14, ‘Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For hat is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

“Like the bubbles!” exclaimed Amanda. “Right,” said Grandma. “They were beautiful and fun, but they lasted only seconds. I’m so glad you girls both know Jesus and will spend eternity with Him. Life is so short compared to eternity, so let’s spend our time wisely. Let’s live every day in a way that makes our lives beautiful for Jesus.”

Thought: Have you noticed that time passes by very quickly? How are you using your time?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for today’s reminder that life is short. Help me spend my time wisely for things that count eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
