THINK OF THE RIGHT THINGS

MARCH 27, Philippians 4:8-9

Your thoughts govern your actions. It means that your behaviour will reflect the nature of your thoughts. Even if you deliberately hide your thoughts to deceive others, they will eventually be found out. There is a saying: You can bluff some people some of the time; or some people all the time; or all the people some of the time; but you can never bluff all the people all the time.

God has given man the ability to choose. Therefore, Paul urges us to choose righteous thoughts. Only righteous thoughts can result in acts that please God. Conversely, evil acts always begin with evil thoughts. Therefore, it is important to fill our minds with thoughts that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good, praiseworthy and virtuous. Then, we would be thinking of good, not evil things.

There is a popular saying about computer usage: Garbage in, garbage out. Keying in inaccurate data would churn out wrong and useless information. Our mind works in a similar way! Thus, if we do not guard our mind against evil thoughts, the outcome will be evil acts! When we sin, we cannot enjoy the peace of God. It is wise to listen to Paul’s teaching. The only way to keep us from sin is to keep God’s word in our heart.

Thought: How much time do you spend in your daily quiet time? How much time do you spend in front of the TV daily?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to study the Bible regularly to fill my mind with righteous thoughts. Help me to spend more time on reading Your Word and the Junior RPG so I may learn more and more. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
