PETER: HIS GOSPEL THROUGH MARK
 
Another aspect in the life of Peter was his supervision on the Gospel of Mark. Early church fathers, such as Papias, affirmed that John Mark wrote the Gospel of Mark by recording the preaching and memories of Peter. Though Peter was not the direct author, Mark served as his interpreter, faithfully preserving Peter’s testimony, even if it was not always recorded in strict chronological order. This gave the early church confidence to receive the Gospel of Mark, knowing it carried the authority of Peter’s eyewitness accounts.
 
Peter did not demand recognition or insist that his name be attached to the Gospel. His concern was not for personal honour but for the life and deeds of Jesus Christ to be recorded. His desire was that believers would see and follow the humility of the Lord. For Peter, the testimony of Christ mattered far more than his own reputation.
 
In our ministries, the same principle must guide us. Let the name of Christ be magnified. Let His work be understood in our service. Let His glory be the aim of all we do. He alone deserves praise, He alone is worthy of honour, and He alone belongs on the pedestal. Every success is ordained by Him, every provision comes from Him, and every outcome is energised by Him. To Him belongs all glory.
 
The guidance that Peter gave to Mark was exemplary. As an eyewitness, Peter testified what he had seen, and Mark faithfully recorded the words given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is God’s marvellous provision for His children. He gave us the written Word that we may know and believe the Living Word.
 
Together they laboured, not for their own names, but for the name of Jesus Christ alone. May we likewise labour, with our co-labourers, always for His praise, not ours. May we devote our lives for His glory alone!
 
THOUGHT: Am I labouring for God’s glory, or am I seeking recognition for myself?
PRAYER: Father, remind me that in everything I do, the result must be the glory of Thy name. Keep me humble, faithful, and focused on Christ alone.
