PETER: HIS LETTERS OF WARNINGS
 
Another contribution Peter made to the history of the Church was his epistles. Peter wrote to warn believers of the rise of false teachers with their unbiblical doctrines and immoral lifestyles. The Spirit of God prompted him to alert the church of this impending danger, which could deceive many and jeopardise the faith of the saints. He urged believers to guard themselves by making every effort to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
 
Safety from the snares and traps of the enemy lies in walking the path God has set for His children. This path is safe and secure, where Satan has no power to prevail. It is straight and narrow, requiring courage to walk faithfully. It is sufficient and gracious, for God’s provision never fails. Stay on this path, do not wander, lest you be led astray.
 
Peter knew that with the imminency of the Lord’s return, the minds of believers would be seduced into thinking His return was far off. The unbelieving world would poison Christians with doubt. Modernists would twist the truth, claiming Christ’s return is merely human imagination. Take heed of Peter’s warnings. He heard them directly from the Master, who prophesied of His return. He witnessed opposition from Jews and Romans alike, and foresaw greater trials ahead. Yet, he affirmed that the Lord’s return is certain. Therefore, let every Christian be circumspect, viewing the world through the lens of God’s Word. Let every believer discern teachings with the Spirit’s guidance. Let every child of God be cautious, testing every message that introduces worldly ways.
 
Dear reader, have you pondered the warnings of the Apostle Peter, warnings he first heard from the very mouth of the Lord Jesus? Be warned, and be watchful! (Read 2 Peter 3:18.)
