JUDE: CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH
 
The next hero in church history is the Apostle Jude. His epistle is short, but its message is powerful. He warned believers of the imminent danger they will face before the Lord’s return: a flood of false and deceitful doctrines. His urgent call is that Christians “should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3).
 
The whole body of doctrine in God’s Word will be under attack. These deceivers will creep in unnoticed, appearing as angels of light. They will disguise themselves in sheep’s clothing, seemingly harmless, speaking soothing and comforting words. They will counsel with phrases people love to hear, offering warmth and sympathy in times of trial. Outwardly, they seem like the best companions.
 
But in truth, they are heretics. They twist and distort Scripture, adding to it here, removing from it there. They lead people astray into destructive paths. They encourage the following of one’s own heart, pleasing oneself, and rejecting the narrow way of Christ. They deny the sufficiency of His perfect work, urging others to add their own efforts or sacrifices to complete salvation. They reduce Christ to a mere example to imitate, rather than the Saviour who redeems.
 
Brethren, we live in the very age Jude described. The faith once delivered to the saints is under constant attack. The antidote is clear: we must know the Word of God deeply, with the Spirit of God as our teacher and guide. We need Spirit-filled teachers to instruct us, and we must devote ourselves to studying, understanding, and hiding God’s Word in our minds and hearts.
 
Jude’s warning, given two thousand years ago, remains urgent today. Let us cling to God, who alone is faithful to preserve His people. He is able to keep us from falling and to present us blameless before the Father. Let us earnestly contend for the faith, standing firm in His truth.
 
THOUGHT: Do I truly love God’s Word and guard it in my life?
PRAYER: Father, help me to know Thee more through Thy Word. Strengthen me to contend earnestly for the faith and to remain stedfast in Christ.
