PAUL: HIS LETTER TO THE COLOSSIANS
 
Paul’s blessing to church history is great. Through his epistles, it is revealed that the church in Colosse was not planted by Paul. The Book of Acts also does not record him visiting this city. Instead, God established the church through Epaphras, one of Paul’s students from the school of Tyrannus in Ephesus, where Paul taught for two years. These students became missionaries and evangelists in the surrounding regions, and Colosse was one of the places reached.
 
Like many churches, Colosse soon came under attack from false teachings. Subtle errors crept in, early forms of what would later develop into Gnosticism. Epaphras likely sought Paul’s counsel regarding this heresy. In response, Paul warned them against any teaching that diminished the supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ. He cautioned them not to entertain worldly philosophies, for such ideas corrupt the pure doctrines of Scripture. Instead, Paul exhorted them to live as God’s people. Those who are risen with Christ must manifest renewed lives worthy of eternal glory.
 
Professing to be a Christian does not save a person if his life shows no change by the Spirit. Merely assembling with believers does not save one whose heart pursues worldliness and materialism. Even serving alongside full-time ministers does not save if the motive is self-promotion or self‑gratification.
 
The life of a true Christian is a renewed life. He is no longer the same person he once was. His life is ruled by the Spirit and guided by the Word. He demonstrates love toward his family and those around him. He depends fully on God, serving Him faithfully through prayer.
 
You who claim to be a Christian, has your life been changed by the power of the Gospel of Christ? Do you see a clear difference between your life before and now, as a follower of the living and true God? Have your dreams and ambitions shifted, now inclined toward the things above rather than the things of earth?
 
THOUGHT: Am I truly a new person in Christ?
PRAYER: Father, as Thou hast saved me, help me to live a life worthy of witnessing for Thee.
