Romans 8:38-39

NOTHING CAN SEPARATE US FROM GOD

"You’re ugly, Bee Leng!" shouted Ella. "I’m leaving!" With that, Ella dashed out the door and ran to the next block to her own home, but she felt terrible. I shouldn’t have gotten mad at Bee Leng, she thought. I’m a Christian now - at least I guess I am. Just the day before, she had decided to trust Jesus to forgive her sins. But now she had lost her temper-as usual! Maybe I’m not really saved after all, she thought. It bothered her the rest of the week. The next Sunday, she stayed after Sunday school class to talk with her teacher. "I want to be saved," said Ella.

Mrs. Lee smiled. "You asked God to save you last week, remember?" Mrs. Lee asked gently. "You confessed that you’re a sinner and asked Him to forgive you." Ella nodded. "Well, let me explain this again," said Mrs. Lee, and she did. After they prayed together, Ella felt much better.

A few days later, Ella became angry when her mother insisted she washed the dishes. "I hate you!" mumbled Ella - under her breath, of course. Again she felt awful. "I don’t deserve to go to heaven!" she thought.

The next Sunday, Mrs. Lee was surprised when Ella again stayed after class and said she wanted to be saved. "I know Jesus died for me, and I asked Him to forgive me. But I’m such a terrible sinner!" said Ella tearfully. "I still keep doing bad things. And I’m so sorry! I really do want to be saved."

"Ella, you said you know you’re a sinner and you asked Jesus to forgive you and save you, right?" asked Mrs. Lee. Ella nodded, and Mrs. Lee continued. "If you really mean it, you’re born into God’s family. You’re His child forever." "Forever?" asked Ella.

Mrs. Lee nodded. "It’s like when you were born into your earthly family," she said. "Your parents don’t disown you every time you do something wrong, although it may spoil your relationship with them for a while. Neither will your heavenly Father disown you every time you sin, but it does spoil fellowship with Him. When you sin, confess it to God right away and depend on His strength to not repeat it. But you remain a part of God’s family."

"Oh-h-h-h," breathed Ella. She was beginning to understand. "That’s good!"

Thought: Do you feel unsure of your salvation? Believe God’s promise of eternal life for those who trust in Him for His promises never fail.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me despite the mistakes I make. I know sin spoils fellowship with You, so when I sin, help me confess it and turn from it. Help me to be a better person, a better Christian. This is my simple prayer in Jesus’ name - Amen.
