NEVER BE PROUD

JANUARY 15
PROVERBS 11:2

                           NEVER BE PROUD!
"She is so artistic! She draws so well! I think she can be an architect when
she grows up."Ten-year-old Janice received praises like this very often. Her
artworks were often displayed on the notice boards near the canteen. She had
been winning prizes at children’s arts competitions held at the community centre.
One day, her mother enrolled her into a national art competition.
All the praises of people had entered her head and she was puffed up.
"Janice, you have to complete your art piece before next Friday. Otherwise
you won’t qualify for the competition. Do it early so that Cousin Ling
Ling can give you some comments." Janice heard but did not heed Mom’s
advice. ough she did not reply, she boasted in her heart," Why do I need
any comments? Cousin Ling Ling has not won any competitions. She is
only teaching Art to Kindergarten children. Let me show Mom my talent."
The days went by and Janice was yet to start work on her art piece.
Whenever Mom reminded her to, she would promptly reply, "It’s ok Mom.
I can manage!" When ursday night came, Janice wanted to spring into
action but she also had to prepare for a science quiz that Teacher had just
told them that afternoon. Janice was in a fix. She just could not concentrate
on either. In the end, she failed her quiz and her artwork did not qualify
her for the competition.

The Bible tells us not to be proud because pride will bring shame.
Janice became proud and forgot that all her talents were given by God. To
be humble is to acknowledge that every talent is a gift from God. It is wise
to be humble for God loves the humble.

      Complete the following:
      1. Pride goes before a __________.
      2. Humility means thinking that others are __________
          than you.
     3. Humility is telling others that all our talents come from
         __________.
     4. God loves the humble but hates the __________.

Thought: To be proud will bring disgrace.
Prayer: May I walk humbly with Thee, O Heavenly Father. Let me remember
that Jesus, the Son of God in Heaven, came down to earth to live as a
humble man so that I can become a child of God. I thank and praise You
in Jesus’ name. Amen.
