ESTHER'S REQUEST

MARCH 24

Esther 7:2-6

ESTHER’S REQUEST

At this second banquet, king Ahasuerus asked Esther for her request the third time. Each time the king asked, he guaranteed that her request would be granted. The extent of which included giving her half of the kingdom. She started her request by saying "If I have found favour in thy sight, O king..." Esther knew she had obtained favour from the king, and established that to also soften his heart. He was willing to give anything to her. Thus, when she asked simply that her life and the lives of her people be spared, it must have shocked the king. She repeated the words of the decree. e Jews were sold to be "destroyed, to be slain, and to perish." Esther humbly added that if they were sold to slavery, she would have let it be and not bring it up to the king. is naturally led the king to ask who this evil person was, who dared to plot to murder his beloved queen and her people!

Esther had fasted, prayed, and was responsible enough to plan and prepare. Not only was her life at risk when she approached the king, the lives of all the Jews were. She could not waste this opportunity. With carefully chosen words of wisdom, Esther led the king to agree that this was an evil decree against the Jews. She carried out her plan to perfection. Esther told the king plainly that " The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman." Only the king, Esther and Haman were at the table. With both of them staring down at him, and his evil plan exposed, Haman had nowhere to hide and became very afraid.

Our righteous God will expose the deeds of the wicked and punish them in His time. Truly vengeance is of the Lord! Esther fulfilled her promise to go to the king in faith. And God fulfilled His promise to protect His people and punish the wicked.

Thought: God keeps His promises to protect His people.
Prayer: Father in Heaven, search me, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
