ASKING FOR WISDOM

APRIL 2

James 1:5

ASKING FOR WISDOM

The Bible has an account of two mothers: Mrs True and Mrs Lie. Each had a newborn. One night, the mothers were sleeping with their babies. Mrs Lie awoke and realised her baby had stopped breathing. Stealthily, she exchanged her dead baby with the one who was sleeping soundly and sweetly with Mrs True.

The next day, when Mrs True woke up, she discovered the dead child, who was not her baby, lying next to her. She found out that Mrs Lie had stolen her baby but Mrs Lie claimed she was carrying her own baby.Their squabble was brought before a king. Patiently, he listened to their woes. Each claimed the living baby was hers.

In those days, before advanced scientific advances and DNA tests, how was the king able to know who was the real mother? God gave this king wisdom. e king said that since both women wanted the living baby, he would have the living baby cut into 2, with each woman to take one half. Mrs Lie was aloof but Mrs True pleaded that the baby be given to Mrs Lie as she would rather her child live with that evil woman than to have the baby hurt. From their responses, the king concluded that the real mother of the baby was Mrs True. What a wise king!

Did you know who this wise king was? Answer: ________________

Do you ask your parents or grandparents or teachers for wisdom?
Surely, you don’t. From whom did this king ask for wisdom? He was the wisest man ever lived. Read Colossians 2:2-3 and you’ll see that God is the source of knowledge and wisdom. Christ is all-knowing.

Unscramble this word: SICONMNETI. Answer: ______________
It means knowing everything. God knows everything.

God also freely gives anything to His children who obey Him. God gave wisdom to Solomon who loved God. Solomon was using his wisdom to make important decisions and to act fairly before God. Like Solomon who asked for wisdom, we should also ask God to give us wisdom to live for God. When in doubt, ask God for wisdom and He will freely give it to His children.

Thought: Why do we need wisdom?
Prayer: (Pray for someone you know who has a diffcult decision to make).
