WHAT AM I, THAT THOU ART MINDFUL?

JUNE 7

Psalm 8:3-9

WHAT AM I, THAT THOU ART MINDFUL?

Even while creating the immense galaxies of the universe, God created man with special attention and honour. He created man to have dominion over all the earth. He created the sun, moon and stars to serve man. He created only man and woman in His own image so that they could be righteous and holy and live in happy fellowship with Him. No other creatures have the same privilege. However, after the fall into sin in the garden of Eden, peace was broken and joy disappeared.

Yet, God still cared deeply enough for man by sending His son Jesus to earth. When Christ came down to earth, he was born as a man. Humans are "made a little lower than the angels". Jesus led a perfect, sinless life, then suffered, bled and died for our sins.

However, Jesus did not stay in this humble condition. When He had finished defeating sin, death and the devil, He ascended to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God. He was crowned with glory and honour. He now rules the world for the benefit of His people. One day He will return to earth to set up His kingdom and all things will be under His feet.

What a truly wonderful God we have! No wonder David who wrote this psalm could not help but repeat "O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth!"

When God made man, did God make man "a little higher than animals"? Which is better – higher than animals or lower than angels?

Think and discuss with your parents and friends.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to worship and love You more meaningfully each day. I thank You for the lesson today and hope that I’d remember how wonderful a Creator You have been. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
