TOTAL PROTECTION

God, our all-wise Creator has made our body and also the eye. It is a very precious, tender and carefully guarded part of our body. The eyelashes and eyelids are important to protect our eyes from dirt and dust. The tear ducts help to nourish and prevent dryness of the eye. Different nerves and muscles surround the eyeball to enable it to rotate about.

One important part of the eye is the pupil. This part of the eye allows light rays to pass through in order to form an image. David, the psalmist, calls it the "apple of the eye". So, we call upon God to keep and protect us as much as one guards his sight, which is so valuable, as if we are the apple of His eye.

We also pray that God will hide us "under the shadow of His wings". Just as the parent bird completely shields its brood from evil, and cherishes the babies by covering them with its wings, God will likewise protect us.
