1 Corinthians 9:1
PREACH THE GOSPEL
This verse may not be easy to understand. First of all, what does “Preach the Gospel”, mean? Is it only for adults and does not apply to children like you? Of course not! But what is it? In simple terms, “gospel” means “good news”. it is to tell others of the good news of Jesus, and the wonderful things He had done in your life.
Secondly, Paul said he has nothing to glory of. That means he has not been saved because of any goodness in him, or anything he did to secure salvation. On the contrary, before he was saved, Paul was dead against Christians and hunted them down cruelly.
Then in the same verse, Paul uses these words, “necessity is laid upon me”. Now what does that mean? It meant Paul was compelled or duty-bound to share the gospel of Jesus, because it had done so much in changing his life from a persecutor of Christian to a teacher of Christians.
And finally, Paul said that woe is unto him, if he does not preach the gospel. As he has benefitted so much from his relationship with Jesus as his Master and Saviour, it would be terrible if he didn’t share that good news.
Paul tells us it was “woe to him” if he did not preach the gospel. What does that mean? It is his way of saying that it would be terribly selfish of him to not share the wonderful good news of the gospel.
Dear child, have you shared the gospel? Its not easy, but pray and the Lord will give opportunities...
Thought: Have you shared the gospel?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, no matter what I may become, teach me to serve You by helping others and sharing the gospel. Help me not to forget to help others by telling them about You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
