1 Corinthians 10:13

                A WAY TO ESCAPE

There are many temptations in this world, and especially so for us in Singapore. So many things can take us away from being a good Christian. Wanting to sin was a constant struggle for a Corinthian believer. The Bible tells us that God helps us fight our wrong wishes and get rid of wanting to sin.

It was nighttime. Mother and Linda were sitting in the porch. They saw many flies flying around the light hanging from the ceiling. The flies kept hitting against the glass shade. Why were they doing it? They wanted to get near the light and could not stop dashing to the light source.

The next morning, Linda noticed that there were many dead flies on the floor of the porch and called out for her mother. “Mummy, come and see!” Mother came, and Linda asked, “What happened to all these flies, Mummy?”

“ They had died trying to get into the light,” replied Mummy. She added, “ The light had burnt them.”

In a way, we are sometimes like these flies. Even when we know something is not good for us, we still do it because we are tempted and succumb to it. The result is that we get hurt.

When we are tempted, God is able to help us fight any wrong wishes and help us get rid of the desire to sin. God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please forgive me and help me when I’m tempted to sin. Help me not to follow the temptations and sin against You. Give me strength, and I pray in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
