JULY 18, Genesis 2:17, Romans 5:12 

Humans have a representative in Adam, the first man created by God. He was made perfect and holy, i.e. without sin. He was put to a test, but he failed and as a result, sin entered the world. But thank God He is gracious for God killed an animal and gave the skin to Adam and Eve to cover themselves when they realized they were naked. That was the first death in the world. And the death of that blameless animal is an indication of the death of our sinless Jesus who died on our behalf. However, sin has its penalties and it is death. Today, we see the impact of that failure of Adam.

I once went to a cemetery in Choa Chu Kang to see my father-in- law’s tomb. As I walked about, I came upon a tombstone. On it were a few small model cars. I sighed to see the picture of a little boy of about 5 years old on the tombstone. Yes, sin entered into the world when Adam took of the forbidden fruit and death passed upon all men, even you and I.

So, even that little boy of about 5 had to die. And sometimes even babies die.

But praise be to God! Christ rose from the dead and has victory over sin and death! That’s why He said in John 11:25-26 “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word of life which warns me of the danger I am in. Thank You for the Lord Jesus Christ who can deliver me from this death. I pray I will be faithful to Him and live a life that would please You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
