Judges 6:11
NO CHOICE OF FOOD?
Gideon was the son of Joash the Abiezrite, from the tribe of Manasseh. They lived in the city of Ophrah. The name "Gideon" means "feller of trees" (one who cuts down trees). He was secretly beating out wheat by the winepress (a machine used to press grapes in the making of wine). "Threshing" the wheat, would separate the kernels of grain from the stalks. The kernels could be used to make flour, bread and other kinds of food
Why was he hiding from the Midianites? It was to prevent to the Midianites from finding out about and robbing them of the wheat, which was their only paltry supply of food
Imagine how difficult and miserable life must have been for the Israelites! Children, don’t you appreciate the wide choice and varieties of foods that you can have every day? Furthermore, there is little danger of losing your food to strangers who might snatch it away from you? Can you ever imagine what would it be like if your parents were forced to hide all the food to prevent theft? Or having to look over your shoulder all the time just in case someone either steal your money or snatch the food right out of your hands after you had bought it. Aren’t you grateful that you live in a time and place free from such fears?

Thought:Do I thank God for all the food I eat every day, even the ones I do not quite like?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me not to be fussy about food, because there are people who are deprived of food and facing starvation. Thank You for Your promise to supply Your children with food and not let us go hungry. I am truly grateful and pray for your mercy on the needy. Heard my humble cry in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
