DO IT ALL FOR JESUS!

AUGUST 5, Colossians 3:23

“Put the blue block here, Sandi,” Saul suggested as he helped his four year- old sister build a tower with blocks. When the structure was almost finished, Sandi pulled out a green block near the bottom of the tower. The tower wobbled, and toppled over. “Look what you did! You ruined it,” scolded Saul. “Why did you do that?”

“I wanted this pretty green block at the top so I can see it,” replied Sandi.

Just then the telephone rang, and Mom answered it. “Saul, it’s for you,” she said, handing him the phone. “Hi. This is Saul,” he said. A few minutes later, he told his mom, “That was my JW teacher,” he said. “He wants me to come to a rehearsal for that skit they’re doing on Promotion Sunday. There aren’t any parts left in the skit, but they need somebody to help move props between scenes.” He frowned. “I’m not good enough to be in the skit, so they want me to help move the props!”

“The production won’t be nearly as effective if the props aren’t in the right place,” said Mom. “Moving them may not seem as glamorous as acting in the play, but it’s a very important job.” She paused, then added, “It’s like the block Sandi took out of the tower you were building.”

“What do you mean?” asked Saul. “Sandi took out just one block that didn’t show very much anyway,” said Mom, “so why did the whole tower tumble down?”

“Because the blocks at the bottom support the rest of the tower,” said Saul. “So the bottom blocks are as important as those on top?” asked Mom. “Sure,” said Saul. “The top ones can’t just rest on air!” Mom nodded. “It’s like that when work is done, too,” she said. “Each ‘block’ - each worker - is needed as much as any other. They’re all equally important. When we work for God, each servant is as valuable as any other.”

“You make it sound like moving furniture for a skit is reaching people for Jesus,” murmured Saul. He sighed. “Well, I… I guess you’re right. I better go for the rehearsal.”

Thought: Do you feel like an important part of your church, or JW class, or contact group? Hopefully you do because you are!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please remind me that if I put You first in what I do, then whatever I do is important because it is for Your sake. Even if the tasks I’m given are things nobody sees very much, please remind me I’m important in Your eyes! In Jesus’ name, amen.
