SAFETY COMES FROM GOD

January 26, Proverbs 21:31

“Be careful when you cross the road.” As usual, Eddie’s mom reminded him to look left and right and wait for the green man to appear on the lights before crossing. Eddie would assure his mom: “Don’t worry Mom, I will do that.” Eddie’s mom knew Eddie was a very obedient and responsible boy, so she was not worried at all. However, an hour later, her mobile phone rang. It was a call from the police. Eddie had met with a car accident and had a fracture in his left leg.

“What happened, Eddie? I told you to be careful. Didn’t you wait for the green man?” Mom was feeling anxious and agitated by the thought of Eddie’s carelessness.

“I did Mom. I was very careful as usual but I know what went wrong. I forgot to pray for safety, but thank God that He protected me and saved my life.” Eddie’s mom was puzzled. She did not know safety comes from God because she did not know Jesus. Eddie then told Mom about Jesus and how she must trust God.

Very often, we trust our own intelligence and strength to keep us well and safe. We will make sure that we look out for traffic, eat right, exercise regularly and study diligently. We are like the armies in King David’s time, who depended on the number and power of horses to win battles. We often forget to pray for God’s protection!
