NEW QUEEN CROWNED, WITH HUMILITY

MARCH 12, Esther 2: 16-20

Four years have passed since Vashti was removed as queen. After seeing Esther, King Ahasuerus didn’t take too long to decide to crown her as his new queen. To celebrate the occasion , he organised a great feast in honour of Esther. He also exempted the 127 provinces from taxes and gave gifts to the people. The coronation of Esther was announced to the whole empire. The stage was now set for Esther to use her role as queen to make an important decision later that would weigh heavily on the future of the Jews.

Many of you may probably not hold a high position like Esther but you don’t need to be in a position of authority in order to make decisions that can influence others for the Lord. What matters is whether those you come in contact with can see that Christ is the difference in your life. Whatever role God gives to you, it is by His providence so that He can use you as His hands on earth, to be a channel of blessing to others. Isn’t that such a wonderful thought? Just like Esther, we have the privilege to participate in God’s plans!

Another thing we can learn from Esther is that she remained humble and obedient to Mordecai. Esther took no pride in her good looks, or that she was now queen of a great empire. Esther didn’t become arrogant towards Mordecai but continued to respect him. She remembered his instruction not to reveal that she was a Jew. Although the reason was not told to her, she obeyed his command “like as when she was brought up with him”. Esther remembered and was grateful to Mordecai for bringing her up. She truly had a humble spirit that looked to the Lord. We shall read more of this later in the story.

Thought: Humility is the best policy!

Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank you for placing me where I am. Help me to be Your witness by my actions and attitude, so that I can point others to Christ. And in whatever I do and say, teach me to be humble. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
