MARCH 28, Esther 8:7-14
Mordecai’s urgent priority as the new prime minister was to write the next decree. This decree granted the Jews legal permission to stand together and respond in self-defense. This decree had 2 objectives – to declare to the Jews the good news of deliverance and to be ready to fight; and to warn their enemies not to attack them. It was a reasonable and fair decree for self-defense.
Mordecai quickly sent out the decree to all the 127 provinces from India to Ethiopia. All means and ways were used to reach each province with urgency, through horseback, mules and camels. It was a very organised and speedy delivery system, “being hastened and pressed on by the king’s commandment”. There was good news to be told to all the Jews!
The news spread with urgency to bring happiness and joy to the Jews. They would not perish by Haman’s evil decree! Dear reader, do you know that we too have good news to tell to the people of the world? It’s so precious because it concerns their souls! By hearing this news, and believing on it, their souls will not perish in hell. This good news is the gospel of Christ! Because God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Dear reader, do you believe in this good news, and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour? This good news has been sent to you with urgency. Receive Jesus into your heart today, and there will be much joy and gladness! If you have already received Jesus as your Saviour, it’s your responsibility now to share the good news with urgency to your family and friends. May God help us to be faithful delivery men to bring the good news of eternal joy to souls that are perishing.
A Song of Salvation
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
Thought: Have you believed on the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour? Have you told your loved ones of the good news of salvation?
Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank You for the good news of salvation. Thank You that Jesus Christ died in my place and rose from the dead, so that I may have everlasting life. Help me to faithfully and urgently share this good news with my unsaved loved ones. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
