MAY 27, 2 Timothy 3:16; Proverbs 30:5
“What’s on your mind, son?” asked Adam’s father. “You look so serious!”
Adam sighed. “Tom, one of our neighbourhood kids, told me that his Sunday school teacher, Mrs Lee, taught him about the Trinity, that God is three persons in one. There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, and they’re all one person,” said Adam. “How can that be?” added Adam, in disbelief.
“I know it seems difficult for you to understand,” said Adam’s father, “but that is what the Bible teaches.” Adam’s father reached for his Bible. “Now,” he said, “let’s see if I can find some verses to help you understand the doctrine of the Trinity.”
“1 John 5:7, says “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” This is the clearest proof of the doctrine of the Trinity. In Matthew 3:16-17, the Bible also clearly describes the three distinct persons of the Trinity in action at the baptism of Jesus: God the Son on earth, going through the waters of baptism, God the Father in heaven, commending His beloved Son, and God the Holy Spirit descending from heaven to earth in the form of a dove” said Adam’s father.
Adam’s father continued to explain “The Bible also tells us that there is only one God in Deuteronomy 6:4-5. Thus, in this oneness, there is a threeness. There are three Persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three Persons are not divided but distinguished; the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Spirit, the Spirit is not the Father; but the Father is God, the Son is God, the Spirit is God (i.e., the same living and true God who is only One). One God in Three Persons.”
“Thanks Dad, for helping me to understand this difficult doctrine in the Bible.” said Adam. Adam’s father then added, “There are also other doctrines in the Bible that we may not fully understand fully but it is important for us to believe by faith everything the Bible says.
Thought: Do you doubt what the Bible teaches because it doesn’t seem possible? The Bible is the Word of God, and what it says is true.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, there are many things in the Bible that I may not fully understand, but this I know, that it is Thy word and I must trust in it. Help me then to put my faith in You and Your Word always. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
