“OUT OF AN HORRIBLE PIT”

JUNE 28, Psalm 40:1-2

Have you ever been in a physical pit? It must have been terrible, dirty and scary.

David shares a distressing and troubling situation that he was in. David describes his situation in verse 2 like being in a horrible pit of miry clay. How can David get out of such a situation? David must have felt helpless and very discouraged. He must have been very depressed. David could not deliver himself and neither could any man help David.

David realised that only God could deliver him out of his predicament. So, in verse 1, David cried out to the Lord in prayer and waited patiently for Him. David committed his situation before the Lord. He had condence that God was able to deliver him.

What was the outcome of David’s prayer? God heard and answered David’s prayer. Verse 2 tells us that God brought David out of the distressing situation was in.

Have you been in a difficult situation like David? Perhaps it could be anxiety over school exams or anxiety over one of your family members who fallen seriously ill. Pray to the Lord and trust in Him for His help.

Write appropriate words in the pit to describe the horrible pit.

Thought: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance that I can turn to you whenever I face difficult situations in life. Thank You for Your providence and protection in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
