OCTOBER 31, Mark 10:13-16
We read today that while at the coasts of Judaea, little children were brought to Jesus by their parents to receive blessings from Jesus. In those days, it was a custom for parents to bring their children to get blessing from the man of God. However, the disciples rebuked them and this action of the disciples made Jesus very displeased (Mark 10: 14).
Jesus said to his disciples,“Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14). And the Lord Jesus lovingly took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them. What does “for of such is the kingdom of God” mean?
The Kingdom of God refers to Heaven. Here, Jesus is saying that to enter Heaven, we must have complete faith like the children. We know that little children at a young age are helpless. They do not have the ability to care for or protect themselves, hence they do not doubt but trust with all their hearts that their parents will take care of their needs and protect them. This is the image of a genuine Christian – never doubting and fully trusting in Jesus. To receive God’s kingdom, we must first realise that we are unable to do anything to buy our salvation. Salvation is by God’s grace and mercy. Hence we must have complete faith in Jesus Christ, for only He can save, and He is the only way to Heaven. May we be like little children having child-like faith.
Dear children, are you sure of your salvation? How do you know if you have a place in God’s kingdom?
Thought: May I be like these little ones, to fully trust in Jesus.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach me to trust Thee completely. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
