JANUARY 18, Luke 4:1-13
Following up on yesterday’s lesson, another lesson we can learn from this passage is that Satan is very smart; he attacked Jesus when He was at His weakest. Child,
remember this: Satan will attack or tempt you when you are at your weakest, when you are most likely to fall into his trap. When was the last time you fell into sin? It could be a burst of anger, or a rude reply to your parents, or pushing a schoolmate, or being lazy to do your quiet time. It could be so many other possibilities. But you know, before each of these sins happened, you were weak. You felt irritated,or tired,or moody, and Satan knows that. How many years of experience do you think Satan has had in tempting Christians? Yes, thousands of years!
He has successfully tempted many boys and girls, and you are no different. It is always a moment of weakness. But this one moment is enough to cause us to fall. Therefore, we must always keep close to God so that Satan will not have the opportunity to succeed.
How did Jesus fight Satan? Jesus was weak and hungry, but He resisted turning the stones to bread and quoted scripture. In fact, Jesus also resisted the other 2 temptations using God’s Word. is is a clear teaching for us: we must use the Word of God to fight Satan, for on our own, we can do nothing. How consistent is your quiet time or reading of the Junior RPG?
How often and seriously do you pray? How much do you rely on God on a daily basis? If you keep close to Him, read His Word, rely on Him, and you will be like Jesus; you will have victory over Satan!
Thought: Victory over Satan is ours, if we use the Word of God!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be close to You and Your Word so that I can fight against the tricks and temptations of Satan! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
