FEBRUARY 11, Genesis 1:1

“I hope you don’t get upset with me, Dad,” said Teck Leong, “but… well, I really like my science teacher, and he believes what Darwin says about evolution. Sometimes it sounds pretty logical.”

Dad smiled. “I’m not at all upset with you, son,” he said. “I gave that a lot of thought when I was young too.” As he talked, he walked over to the bookshelves and pulled out a book. “Most kids your age don’t get to see this book,” he said as he held it out to Teck Leong. “It’s about evolution, and it’s pretty hard to understand. But, I’d like you to look through it and see how many times you can find such words as ‘let us assume,’‘perhaps,’ or ‘probably’–words indicating uncertainty. I’ll come back in about ten minutes to see what you’ve found.”

Teck Leong opened the book as he sat down in a nearby chair. Soon he was busily reading. He looked up as his dad walked into the room some time later. “Nine times so far, Dad,” Teck Leong said, even before his dad could ask a question. “Nine times in ten minutes.”

Dad took the book. “Imagine how often you’d find such words if you read this from cover to cover,” he said. “To ‘assume’ means to think or suppose that something is true. Teck Leong, wouldn’t you rather know?” Dad handed him another book. “Here’s the world’s best textbook, the Bible! It tells how the world was created and how we can know our Creator. We can know where we came from and where we’re going. Doesn’t that sound a lot better?”

Thought: Do you know the God who created you? You can learn about Him through His book, the Bible. It proves itself true through fulfilled prophecies and changed lives. It has stood the test of time. It tells how you can have a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Help me Heavenly Father to know that out of nothing, You created heaven and earth. It has been clearly and faithfully recorded in Genesis 1 and 2, and I thank you for it. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
