MARCH 22, Galatians 5:22; John 10:14-15
How to be good? We cannot be good until we know where goodness comes from. Of course, goodness can only come from God. God is good! He is good all the time – His character is good, His thoughts are good, His plans are good, and His Word is good. Everything about God is good.
John 10:14-15 – “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.” There is no better example of God’s goodness than when He sent His son into the world to save sinners. It was not as if we deserved it, or that God had no other choice. He could have left us in our sins to suffer in Hell eternally. But He sent Jesus to rescue us, to show us His goodness and to turn us back to Himself.
So, goodness comes from God. And as His children, we are to be like Him. Goodness does not exist in a vacuum – it does things. You and I can do good things to others.
Below is a list of things.
Circle “YES” if it is a good thing and “NO” if it is bad thing:
Submit to good authority, e.g. parents, teachers etc. YES / NO
Submit to bad authority, e.g. gangster leader YES / NO
Share and be kind to others YES / NO
Be selfish and greedy YES / NO
Get angry with other people YES / NO
Gossip about others YES / NO
Help friends with their homework YES / NO
Steal your classmate’s stationery YES / NO
Share toys YES / NO
Give way to the old and young YES / NO
We can do a lot of good things to other people with God’s help and strength. Boys and girls, our lives bring glory to God when we are good to others!
Thought: Do you really do the good things in this list?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are eternally good and You are the perfect example for me. Teach me to learn to be a better child and to show that I am a Christian by doing good to others around me! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
