MARCH 31, Galatians 6:9-10

The Apostle Paul concluded his letter by encouraging the believers in Galatia to do good to all people. It is interesting to note that Paul teaches us to “not be weary in well doing”, meaning we must continue to do good to others. He also teaches that we “faint not”, and the idea is clear – we must go out of our way to be good to others. Often we feel reluctant to help others. Here, God’s standard is way above that – we are to do so much good to others that we may even feel tired, but we are to press on nonetheless! And among the people to whom we do good, we are instructed in particular, to do good to those who are of the household of faith – meaning Christians.

Sometimes we may not feel like doing good to others, especially Christians. We think some Christians, who ought to know better (since they are supposed to read the Bible and know God’s Word), are not living the life God wants them to. Perhaps they are not showing the fruit of the Spirit. Perhaps they are proud, or easily angered, or envious children. And this is all the more sad as they are called to be witnesses for Jesus! And that could put us off! But think about it – we are often like that ourselves! We, who are to know God’s Word and instructions, often do not live a godly life. We, who have tasted God’s forgiveness and kindness, often are unforgiving and unkind!

What is to “do good” to others? It is to show forth to them the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. It is to be a consistent witness for Jesus. The ultimate good you can do is to be Christ-like. That means you would live your life as Christ would. That means you would have the fruit of the Spirit in your life. That way, other Christians may see how they can follow after your example in being loving, joyful, peaceful, longsuffering, gentle, good, faithful, meek, and temperate. That way, non-Christians can see how a Christian ought to live and would surely want to follow you in your choice of Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour!

To “do good” to others is to be what a real Christian is.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for this month’s lessons based on Galatians. There is so much to learn and I pray I could just improve bit by bit on a daily basis. For today’s lesson, I ask that I remember to always try my best to do good to others. This is my humble request. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
