NO FOOD REQUIRED!

APRIL 18, Luke 4:4

Recently, there was a true story about a teenage model. She was 19 years old, was featured in several teen magazine cover shoots, and had a career ahead of her as a model. But she later died from an eating disorder called anorexia. With this eating disorder that she had since she was 16 years old, for three years, she kept reducing the amount of food she would eat until she was getting almost no food at all. In the end, this weakened her heart, which eventually stopped. She had quite literally starved herself to death.

The same can be said of some Christians. They start off well by going to Church and reading their Bible and praying daily. Soon, they become too busy with their daily activities and their time spent for Bible reading and praying begins to decrease, and some days they do not read the Bible or pray at all. As they continue to backslide, they eventually stop coming to church altogether. “It’s ok”, they think, “as long as I still believe in Jesus Christ and He is still my Saviour, all is well with my soul.” Just like the teenage model with anorexia, these Christians are slowly but surely starving their spiritual life. Without sustenance from God, they begin to fall into sin. This in turn leads to them gorging on the junk food of a self-centred life. Either way, the result is hardly spiritually satisfying.

Young Christian, do you take care to feed your soul each day? Or do you feel that that is not necessary? Do you feel that you can live your life successfully without God’s help? Watch out! Don’t neglect your spiritual life.

Thought: “…man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:4)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me read and obey Your Word every day, talk to You in prayer all the time, and spend more time in fellowship with other believers. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
