THE WAX FIGURES

AUGUST 7, Hebrews 9:27

“That looks like fun,” said Renee as her mother showed her how to make candles. Mom had thin sheets of wax and knew how to heat them just right and form special, interesting shapes. “Do you think I could make one shaped like a flower?” “Sure. When you’ve practised a little more,” said Mom. “Make one or two simpler ones first.” “Okay,” agreed Renee, and she got busy with a new one.

They were interrupted by the telephone ring, and Renee dashed off to answer it. It was Erica, a church friend, and the girls chatted. When Renee returned where she and Mom were, she picked up the candle that she had started. “Erica said that Mr. Tan died,” Renee told her mother. “Grandpa knew him– remember? Grandpa told us once that he had been witnessing to old Mr. Tan for years.” Renee frowned as she looked at the candle in her hand. The wax had become stiff, and it was almost impossible to form it the way she wanted to. “I wonder if Mr. Tan ever did accept Jesus,” Renee added.

“I don’t know,” said Mom. She pointed to the candle. “You know, the hardened wax in that unfinished candle reminds me of the importance of accepting Christ while we are still alive.”

Renee looked at the cold, stiff wax she was trying to make into a candle. “My Junior Worship teacher said that, too,” she replied. “She said that there are a couple of reasons why it’s dangerous to wait.” “And what are they?” Mom asked.

“Well, first of all, we don’t know how long we will live. And, if we die in our sins, it will be too late. We will end up in Hell.” She smiled. “I’m glad that I already know Jesus as my Saviour.”

Do not wait. Waiting is dangerous. Make the decision and accept Jesus today.

Thought: Have you accepted Jesus as your Saviour?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that I know I am saved because I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for today’s reminder that I must try to witness to the friends I have as soon as I have the opportunity! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
