JANUARY 19, 1 Peter 2:13-17
For the next few days, we will examine how to glorify God in practical ways. Today, we see how Peter looks at the duty of the Christian as a citizen. Governments are appointed by God to provide peace and maintain order.
As Christian citizens, we are to obey the laws of the land. For those of us living in Singapore, we should be very grateful for our government.
Although not perfect, the Singapore government has done a great job, and there is safety and peace in our land. One only needs to think about the major problems many countries face: racism, drug wars, widespread poverty, government inefficiencies, to appreciate the government.
Test whether you are a good citizen...
1. I obey traffic rules and do not jaywalk.
2. I do not litter in school and elsewhere.
3. I do not draw or damage the walls of void decks.
4. I queue up when getting up the bus.
5. I do not eat or drink in the MRT train.
6. I pray for the government.
If you are able to say “Yes” to these, you are a good citizen! Well done!
Thought: A good Christian is a good citizen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us a good government. I pray You will continue to protect the country and grant wisdom to our rulers so that we can have freedom to worship You, and enjoy the goodness You have given us. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
