PRECIOUS FAITH!

MARCH 1, 2 Peter 1:1

You already know the author of this letter (or epistle) is the Apostle Peter who denied the Lord three times, and then rose to become the leader of the Apostles, and who was willing to suffer much for Jesus. At the time of his writing of this letter, he was not a young temperamental man. He was old and mature, having learnt from his past failures. With gracious words the Apostle Peter greets his readers. He states his authority as an Apostle of Jesus, serving under the direct teaching of Christ. His words and writing therefore have authority and weight. It must be received as God’s divinely inspired and preserved Word.

Peter writes to those who have “obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”. This shows his deep concern for the believers that they know how precious their faith is. This precious faith was of a right kind. It is not a faith of doing miracles or a mere profession of belief, but a deep and lasting trust in the Almighty God. This would be most precious.

What is most precious to you? To some, it could be their parents. To others, a favourite toy. But the faith we have in God must be more precious than anything else. Whoever you deem precious, you will spend time with, and love to be with. If a hobby is precious to you, you would like to spend time on it. If mummy is precious, you would want to be with her. Is this so with your faith? If you claim that God is precious to you, do you spend time with God and love to read His Word? Or do you have your Quiet Time reluctantly?

Thought: Treasure your faith!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for this precious faith that You give to me. May I grow and learn more so that I may mature and grow like Peter did. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
