THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

JULY 8, John 14:15-17

In this passage, Jesus talks about the personal presence of the Spirit in every believer. His invisible presence, although not seen, can be felt in a powerful way if we maintain a close walk with the Lord.

Jesus made it clear in verse 15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” We must love God and show that by keeping his commandments. Should we do that, the ministry of the Holy Spirit will be a powerful one in our lives. And just as Jesus was the comforter of the disciples when He was on earth, the Holy Spirit will be our Comforter today!

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer, and that means He is always there to comfort, counsel and guide the believer. Since He abides in us, He will always be there for us. He will not forsake us or abandon us even when we sin. What we must be aware of is that He is in us, and that we must be sensitive to His teachings and promptings. When we sin, we must feel bad and miserable as we would have grieved the Holy Spirit. Then, He will work within us to change us, to move us away from the ways of sin to the ways of righteousness. This is the work of the Holy Spirit.

This passage tells us three times the Holy Spirit lives in the hearts of believers. Write them down:

1. v. 16 _______________________________________

2. v. 17 _______________________________________

3. v. 17 and ____________________________________

Thought: Is the Holy Spirit in you? If so, do you feel His prompting and ministry?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, what a precious gift and blessing that we have in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to help and guide us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
