GOD GIVES THE INCREASE

NOVEMBER 10

1 Corinthians 3:6

Wearing a big smile, Dad walked into the kitchen where Kate and her mother were working. “Hey, everyone!” he called. “Guess what happened?!”

“What?” asked Kate eagerly. “Kate, do you remember when you and your Sunday School class went out for pizza after your lesson last month?” asked Dad.

“Sure,” said Kate. “We had lots of fun.”

“Well,” said Dad, “Pastor just called, and he told me a man named Joseph rang him today. Joseph was in the pizza shop when all of you walked in.”

“How did he know who we were?” asked Kate.

“He saw the name of the church on the van that day,” explained Dad. “Anyway, at first, he was annoyed when he saw all the kids entering the shop. He was afraid you’d be too rowdy, but you weren’t. The man said that when you all bowed your heads to thank the Lord for your food, he was reminded of the days when he was a kid in Sunday School.”

“Really?” asked Kate. “That’s good, isn’t it?”

“It sure is,” replied Dad. “Joseph told Pastor that when he went home that night, he couldn’t stop thinking about God. He said that he had strayed far from the Lord, and now he wants to come back. Isn’t that wonderful?”

“That’s great!” exclaimed Mom. “Kate, all of you were being a witness without even knowing it!”

“Yes, you were,” agreed Dad. “The seed of God’s Word was planted in Joseph’s life a long time ago. You ‘watered’ it, and God made it grow. He brought the change in Joseph’s thinking.” Kate was delighted. “Do you mean we watered it just by thanking God for the pizza and behaving ourselves?” she asked.

Dad nodded. “That’s right. We never know how God will use even the smallest act of faithfulness on our part to bring glory to Himself.”

Thought: Do you witness for Christ by your life and your actions, such as by a friendly word, a kind act, or a prayer of thanks in a restaurant? God uses these things, and many more, to touch people’s lives.

Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, that I can be a blessing to others if I live a life that pleases You. Please help me to be faithful, not only in big things, but in small ways too. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
