SEPTEMBER 2, Isaiah 1:1
Isaiah was a prophet who served under a few kings of Judah, including king Uzziah.
The Jews, God’s chosen people, were united under one kingdom during the reigns of King David and King Solomon. After King Solomon’s death, the kingdom was split into two. The northern kingdom was called Israel and the southern kingdom was called Judah and the two kingdoms often could not get along well with each other.
What was special about Isaiah was that he was a prophet, or God’s messenger. In the days of the Old Testament, God chose various men as His messengers to deliver His word to His people. Isaiah was chosen to reveal God’s judgement on His people. As a prophet, Isaiah must declare God’s word boldly, even if it is not what the people would want to hear. We, too, can learn from Isaiah’s example and be steadfast in our obedience and devotion to God.

Thought: May I learn to be like Isaiah not to fear man!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You know that sometimes I am afraid of offending my friends as they may shun me. Help me to be more like Isaiah, to fear You and not to be afraid of offending them, if I need to be different from them. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
