SEPTEMBER 3, Isaiah 1:2-9
As God’s spokesman, Isaiah charged Judah with rebellion and being guilty of forsaking her God. It is unthinkable that children could revolt against a loving father who cared for and nurtured them. Not only did they not return His affection, they were totally ungrateful children who behaved worse than animals. “The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib (stall): but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.” (Isaiah 1:3)
During Isaiah’s lifetime, foreign armies would invade Judah three times:
1. The Syrian-Israel Coalition (Isaiah 7).
2. The Assyrians under Sargon (Isaiah 22).
3. The Assyrians under Sennacherib (Isaiah 26).
Judah would have been totally destroyed if not for God’s grace. Let us examine ourselves and ask whether we have been grateful to our parents and to God for all the good things we have received. May the Lord forgive us of the sin of ungratefulness.
These are what ungrateful children do at home. Are you one of them?
Write the words “Be thankful” after each ungrateful action
1. Complain that the food at home is horrible when
mum has spent many hours preparing it. _____________________
2. Being unhappy about having extra lessons in school
or at tuition centers despite your parents paying
the fees and sending you there. _____________________
3. Blaming your friends whenever you lose
in a game, quiz or competition. _____________________
4. Not thankful for the love, care and protection
you receive from God every day. _____________________
Thought: How happy we will be when we are thankful.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to have a grateful and thankful attitude. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
