A FULLER VIEW OF THE VIRGIN-BORN SON

SEPTEMBER 10, Isaiah 9:1-7

God graciously gave Isaiah a fuller view of the attributes of the Saviour in this chapter. Isaiah begins by turning his view on the land of Zebulon and the land of Naphtali in the region of Galilee. This region in the north was the first to feel the sting of the Assyrian invaders. But the people there will experience a great light when Jesus lived and ministered there. They will experience even greater glory and their joy will be full when Jesus comes again to reign on earth as their King.

In verses 6-7, the spotlight turns to the throne of David in Jerusalem. This Child who is to be born must come from the House of David! He will be the King of kings, ruling over the Jewish nation. He will be the hope of all Israel where Ahaz has been such a disappointment. He will be vested the highest honour and power. He shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. He will bring peace and justice in His kingdom in the golden age of the millennium. He is our Lord, Jesus Christ. Do you know Him? Is He your Saviour?

Verse 6 tells us that the child born of a virgin will grow to take over the government of the world. This Messiah has other glorious names.

Thought: Jesus is a wonderful counselor to me.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, a wonderful Counsellor to me. May I go to Him and seek His grace so that I will know how to live a life that will please You. With His wisdom, even though I am but a child, I will know how to handle the challenges that may come my way. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
