DECEMBER 5, Genesis 2:20-23

As Adam reviewed the animals and gave names to all of them, Adam realised that none could be an equal or a companion for him, and share his thoughts, his joys and his purposes. Genesis 1:27 tells us that “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”, and we understand that the woman was made on the sixth day too.

Eve was created out of one of Adam’s ribs. The Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and while he was sleeping, God took one of Adam’s ribs and closed up the flesh. That was the first surgery on earth! When Adam saw Eve, he immediately recognised the woman as bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh. He knew that she was physically, intellectually and morally qualified to be his mate. They became man and wife. What a wonderful love story that was, and right in the beautiful garden of Eden!
