LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD

JULY 9, 1 Kings 17:11-13

God has a plan for every one of us. His spirit will guide us step by step to fulfil it. We need to do our part by listening and obeying. For Elijah, God planned his meeting with the widow who will minister to him. When Elijah arrived at Zarephath. God made sure that the widow was at the gate to meet him at the right time. The moment when he saw her at the gate of the city, gathering sticks, he knew who she was.

When Elijah requested for water to drink, she promptly went to fetch some. It is amazing that she did it. Why? Because water was really scarce in a drought. Moreover, he was a stranger in that land. The widow did not hesitate because God had prepared her heart to do it.

Then Elijah asked for a morsel of bread. In response, she disclosed that she only had a handful of wheat flour and a bit of oil to make the last meal for her and her son. She was mentally prepared for both she and her son to die after that for they would have run out of food! Look at Elijah’s reply, “Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and thy son.” (1 Kings 17:13). If these words were not from God, do you think Elijah would have spoken them?
