JULY 26, 1 Kings 19:12-14
After the commotion of the three manifestations, Elijah heard the still small voice of God. It aroused him and brought him out of the cave. Out of reverence for God’s presence, Elijah pulled his mantel or cloak over his face.
Elijah expected a display of power at Mount Carmel, to turn the people’s hearts around. Now, he learnt that the still small voice of God is far more powerful as God speaks directly to his heart. Elijah must have felt very ashamed for running away instead of waiting for God’s order. He must have felt sorry for giving God the same, lame excuse for his getaway. What may we learn from him?
If we do wrong, we must confess and ask for forgiveness and not give excuses. Elijah was encouraged because God did not give up on him. God came to guide him back to the right path.
Our God is all-knowing, all-powerful and all-present. Nothing is impossible for Him. He created everything from nothing and can destroy all just by speaking a word. Yet God is patient to all of us.
Cancel the odd one out. The still small voice of God can be:
1. A Bible verse telling us about Jesus Christ our Saviour.
2. God’s word comforting us when we are upset or sad.
3. A lesson learnt at Sunday School.
4. Telling us that we have sinned and must confess to God.
5. The desire to skip church to study hard.
6. A feeling that a friend needs your help.
Thought: Thank God for His patience!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you so much for Your patience towards me. Teach me to be patient and more tolerant to the people around me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
