FOOLS FOR CHRIST’S SAKE

SEPTEMBER 4, 1 Corinthians 4:10

After school, Daniel took his Bible from his locker and looked around a little nervously. He knew that if certain kids saw him with a Bible, he’d have to listen to some taunting remarks. “Hey! Daniel!” called James, a boy from his church youth group. “You dropped something.” As Daniel looked down, James said “Just kidding!” and the boys laughed together. “Let’s go to the shopping center across the road and spend time with some of the guys,” suggested James. Daniel hesitated, and James noticed the Bible in his hand. “You’re not going to that Bible club again, are you?” James asked.

Daniel nodded. “Why don’t you come with me?” he asked. “I get enough Bible lessons on Sunday,” replied James. “Don’t you?” “Not really,” said Daniel. “Besides, last week our Sunday school teacher, Teacher Whie Kwang said that if we go to Bible club, it is one way to show others that we are Christians.” We can also invite others so that they will learn about the Lord Jesus. “Why don’t you come with me?” urged Daniel. “You’re a Christian, too, aren’t you, James?”

“Yeah, sure,” mumbled James, “but I don’t think we have to talk about it all the time.” He paused. “What I mean is... well... some of the guys are already teasing me about going to Sunday school. If I go to Bible club instead of hanging out with them, I bet they’ll call me a fool!”

Daniel thought it over. Then he shrugged. “It’s funny,” he said. “Teacher Whie Kwang said we’re always somebody’s fool - either the world’s or Christ’s. As for me, I’d rather be a fool for Christ.” They turned at the next corner. “We’re meeting at church fellowship hall today, in case you decide to come,” Daniel said. “Otherwise, I’ll see you on Sunday.”

James thought over what Daniel had said as he watched Daniel hurry down the street. “Maybe I should head over for Bible study-even if I do get called a fool, at least I’ll be a fool for Jesus!

Thought: Am I afraid to let others see that I am a Christian?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to bear a good testimony for the Lord Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
