BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD

SEPTEMBER 30, Psalm 46:10

It was still early when Alex woke up. He knew it was early because it was dark. Alex got out of bed and went to look for his mother. He looked in the kitchen, but she wasn’t there. She wasn’t in the living room, either. Finally, Alex peeked into Mother’s bedroom and found her sitting by the bedside, her Bible on her lap. Her eyes were shut; he knew she was praying.

Alex wanted a hug, so he quietly crawled onto Mother’s lap. “Good morning,” said Mother, giving him a hug. “You’re up early.”

“Were you praying?” asked Alex.
“Yes,” replied Mother, “I was.”

“What about?” asked Alex.
“Oh, quite a few things,” answered Mother, “but I was mostly just being alone with the Lord.”

“Being alone with the Lord?” asked Alex. He didn’t quite understand that.

Mother nodded. “Just now you came in and climbed on my lap because you wanted to be with me,” she told him. “I’m glad you did, because I love you, and I like to be with you, too. Well, sometimes I just like to be alone with God. I think about how good He is, speak to Him in prayer, and just enjoy His presence. I think He’s pleased that I like to be with Him.”

“Can I spend time alone with God, too?” asked Alex.

“Sure,” said Mother.

Thought: If I say I love God, I would also want to spend time with Him!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I must confess that sometimes I am so busy that I forget to sit still and just enjoy being with You. Help me to be close to You always. This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
