FEBRUARY 14, 1 John 2:10
What we read in today’s Bible verse is the love that we see from God, and the same love that we can give to others. But how do we show love to others?
There are many ways to show love and we will focus on one today. We will focus on being kind. What is to be kind?
To be kind is not just to be nice and gentle. To be kind is to think for the other person. There may be some people who appear kind as they are outwardly nice and gentle. But these people may be doing it for selfish motives.
Christian kindness is to treat others the way Jesus would. That is impossible for us to do, if we rely on our own strength. That is why we must pray as we learn to be kind, for without Jesus’ help, we would fail.
So Christian kindness is to think for the other person. To treat others the way you want to be treated. In what ways can we show kindness?
Check the following out:
1. do not get angry too easily, eg when pride is hurt
2. do not fret
3. do not harbour ill thoughts about others
But is being kind just not doing the above? No, it is doing some things as well:
1. Be more patient and willing to help
2. Be more forgiving
3. Be sensitive to the needs of others, not just your own needs
Thought: Be kind to others!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as You have been so kind to me, may I learn to be kind to others. This is impossible without Your help. Heavenly Father, please strengthen me as I learn to be a better Christian. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
