MARCH 9, Philippians 2:3-4
The centre of the word ‘PRIDE’ is the letter ‘I’. Pride means exactly that. ‘I am the purpose and centre of my life and whatever I do is for my own pleasure and for my glory.’ Does Jesus want us to be like that? On the contrary, Jesus is the perfect example of humility. He hid his heavenly glory, took the humble form of a poor carpenter to live in this sinful world so as to sacrifice his life to save mankind.
Can you find anyone more humble than Jesus? Jesus is God and yet He lowered himself to become man, to live a life of righteousness to fulfil the law and to die for sinners. He did not yield to the Devil’s temptation to show off His heavenly power but instead showed us how to obey our Heavenly Father. He cared for others and acquired no earthly treasures or pleasures. He glorified our Heavenly Father in all things.
We must be more like Jesus. If you have the gifts of singing, organising, teaching or leading, use them to glorify God. Remember that every perfect gift comes from above. We have nothing to boast of as everything we have is given by God. Hence, there need not be any competition or strife to outdo each other in our service to God. On the other hand, we must not succumb to false modesty by not using our talents. Very often, pride causes us to compare ourselves with others. When we feel inferior, we tend to shy away and bury our talents.
Children, the work of every church member counts. So let us humbly do our part.
Cross out what Christians should not do:

Thought: Embrace humility, reject pride.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be humble always. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
