OF THE SAME SPIRITUAL MIND

MARCH 20, Philippians 3:15-17

When Christians worship God, we worship in spirit because we have already received the Spirit of God. He has given us a spiritual mind and we are to strive to have the mind of Christ. It is for us to understand the spiritual things that God has freely given us.

What are spiritual things? These are unseen things from heaven. Faith, peace, love and joy are spiritual gifts from God. What does the Bible say about these things?

Faith: – The apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith (Luke 17:5).

Peace: – Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you” ( John 14:27).

Love: – “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5).

Joy: – Jesus said, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” ( John 15:11).

What do you wish for in life? What is your mind preoccupied with? How to get better grades at school, what to eat, what to wear, where to buy the latest version of some electronic gadgets – these are not evil intentions at all. But, being obsessed with them is sin.

Earthly things are temporal and will pass away whereas spiritual things are of eternal value. Therefore, Paul appealed to all Christians to follow his example of occupying their minds with spiritual things. His life shows what it means to have the mind of Christ.

Thought: A spiritual Christian looks at earthly things from heaven’s view.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be spiritual and not materialistic. Teach me not to value the things of this world too much but to treasure the things that You taught us to love. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
